Gilman Scholarship

Am I Eligible?

To be eligible, you must be:

  • Applying to or accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by the student's accredited institution of higher education in the U.S.
  • Receiving a Federal Pell Grant or provide proof that he/she will be receiving a Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term of their study abroad.
  • A US citizen enrolled at a US accredited institution of higher education
  • In good academic standing

What Will I Receive?

Awards of up to $5,000 are made for up to one academic year of undergraduate study abroad. Award amounts will vary based on student need and length of program with the average award being $4,000. Gilman funds may only be used to cover eligible study abroad program costs and related expenses. These include: Program tuition and fees, room and board, books, local transportation, health insurance and international airfare.

How Do I Apply?

There are two cycles for the Gilman -- a Fall and Spring Cycle.  Please check the program website for additional details.

Additional Information:

Program Purpose: The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to broaden the student population that studies abroad by supporting undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints. The Gilman scholarship aims to support a diverse range of students who have been traditionally under-represented in study abroad programs.
