Through the official IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, current accounting students in the Heider College of Business use their skills and expertise to assist qualifying families in filing their taxes for free every year.

The last VITA clinic for this year is scheduled for March 16 in the Harper Center. There is also an online option.

The Heider College of Business VITA program is mutually beneficial for both students and community members. Students study tax rules, IRS 1040 forms and applicable tax credits and deductions in the Principles of Taxation class, along with training and certifications from the IRS, then apply this knowledge to help families in our community file their tax returns at no cost. The program is free help to individuals who have income less than $60,000 and need help preparing their federal and state tax returns. This service is open to both low- and moderate-income earners, students and Creighton employees.
