Zachary Smith, PhD, associate professor of theology and Classics and founding co-director of the Race and Othering Humanities Lab, has been invited to give the inaugural lecture for the Lectures on Christianity in Context series at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Sept. 19.
His lecture is titled "What about Race in Early Christianity?" and looks at ethnic othering in early Christianity, contextualized in the Greco-Roman intellectual world and the Roman Empire. This research has been the basis for forthcoming publications, including one co-authored with two undergraduate students in the Honors Program of the College of Arts and Sciences.
