The Center for Advising Resources and Support is delighted to welcome Dr. Mark Reedy as the Senior Faculty Director for Pre-Professional Advising. Reedy will direct, enhance and support campus-wide pre-professional advising at Creighton. He fills the role formerly held by Dr. Chuck Austerberry, Assistant Professor Emeritus and begins on June 1, 2024.

Reedy has been chair of the Creighton Department of Biology since 2008, leading the College of Arts and Sciences’ largest department. He has been a campus leader both in and outside his department with wide-ranging leadership and service at the college and university level. He will continue to teach Biology courses in addition to his new leadership role in CARS.

As part of Creighton Student Success, Reedy will lead efforts by faculty and staff advisors to maintain and enhance pre-professional advising across colleges. Over the course of his first year in CARS, Reedy will assume leadership for the Creighton University Committee Letter process, teach pre-professional advising seminars, and take over the key role of fostering communities of practice with the pre-Health advisor meetings. He’ll also foster deeper connections with Creighton professional school admissions partners to better advise students for application success. He will continue to be part of campus-wide initiatives and task forces in support of students and faculty.

Reedy first came to Creighton in 2001 as an assistant professor, after a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He earned a Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology at the University of California at Davis after doing his undergraduate work at the University of Kansas. Reedy’s research interests include cardiac and neural development and Biology education. His teaching expertise includes cell biology, developmental biology, and general biology.

A distinguished teacher, advisor, and leader, Reedy has earned Creighton honors such as the College of Arts and Sciences’ Dean’s Award for Excellence in Tenure-Track Teaching Sciences (2024), the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Award for Teaching Achievement (2018), the Distinguished Service Faculty Award (2015), and the Outstanding Major Advisor Award from the Creighton College of Arts and Sciences Student Senate (2008). He has also been a faculty fellow with the Center for Faculty Excellence (2021-2023).

Mark has been married to his wife, Nancy, for more than 30 years. They have two adult sons.
