Phoenix Campus: Title IX Updates and Student Pregnancy Policy

On April 19, 2024, the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights released new Title IX regulations (2024 regulations), replacing the previous 2020 regulations. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any education program or activity that receives federal financial assistance. Creighton’s Office of Title IX and Civil Rights Compliance (T9-CRC) oversees the University’s compliance with Title IX, including addressing all reports of sexual harassment and sex discrimination.

The 2024 regulations expand protections for sex discrimination, add pregnancy protections for students, and update adjudication procedures. Creighton has implemented the Title IX Sex Discrimination and Sex-Based Harassment Policy for Arizona programs operating out of the Creighton University Health Sciences Campus – Phoenix.

Due to a federal injunction, the 2024 Title IX regulations are not enforceable in Nebraska, including Creighton University’s Omaha campus. The Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy remains in effect for Nebraska-based programs. For questions, contact TitleIX@creighton.edu.

Creighton has also implemented a new Student Pregnancy Policy. If faculty, staff, or administrators learn of a student’s pregnancy status, they should share the contact information for T9-CRC or refer the student to the Pregnancy and Parenting Student Assistance Form. T9-CRC staff work with students to provide support and assistance through modifications, excused absences, access to lactation spaces, and more. For questions, please contact TitleIXPHX@creighton.edu.

Please look for upcoming trainings this fall related to these new policies.

Creighton University remains committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment free from harassment and discrimination. The Office of Title IX and Civil Rights Compliance continues to be available to assist any individual who may have concerns regarding sex discrimination and sexual harassment, including sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking.
