As we welcome the season of fall and celebrate another banner year of student retention and graduation rates, it is an opportune time for us to reflect on the University-wide efforts that helped us exceed our goals. While many factors can be attributed to this success, there is no question that the Bluejay Family First-year Cura Calling Initiative has had a positive impact. Thank you to those who have participated through the years!
The purpose of the initiative, led by the Office of Student and Family Support, is to reach out to parents and families to help identify students who might need assistance with transitioning to university life. The caller is not the problem-solver, but the person who helps identify those who might be struggling.
Help contact the parent(s) of incoming first-year students by telephone
By contacting the parent, we are opening a door for dialogue, which enables us to have another proactive tool in our retention efforts. In a time of email fatigue and screen overload, a personal phone call makes it very clear to all families that Creighton cares.
This year’s calling window is Sept. 23 to Oct. 7. Calls can be made during the day, evening or weekend. Sign up by the end of day on Monday, Sept. 16, to help with this outreach.
Volunteers will be provided a conversation outline and a list of resources for typical areas of concern.
You will document basic information about each call in our database. If you have a parent that needs immediate follow-up, there is an option to alert the Office of Student and Family Support. A brief training/refresher will be held ahead of time.
