Dear Colleagues,
One month from now we will celebrate Creighton University’s Mission Week, taking place Aug. 23 through Sept. 5, which will coincide with the beginning of the fall semester and all the excitement that surrounds a new academic year.
During a time when so many of us are looking toward the future, this annual event gives us the opportunity to reflect on more than 475 years of Jesuit, Catholic education and the insights and ideals of St. Ignatius, whose feast day will be recognized in a little over a week from today, on July 31.
A new tradition for this year’s Mission Week is the presentation of the St. Ignatius Award, which had previously been presented during my Presidential Convocation in February. This award is a chance to recognize an outstanding colleague who embraces the Ignatian values of magis, cura personalis, and being for and with others.
Aligning with this year’s theme of “Companions in Mission,” I encourage you to nominate one or more individuals by the July 31 deadline.
This year's Mission Week will feature a keynote address provided by the Rev. Greg Boyle, SJ, HON’09, who is no stranger to Creighton. His upcoming return visit to Omaha is of particular note given that his work with gang violence prevention and addressing criminal recidivism was recognized with a Presidential Medal of Freedom earlier this summer. Registration is open for this event, which will be held on Aug. 26 in the Ahmanson Ballroom in the Harper Center in Omaha and livestreamed online.
I look forward to seeing each of you during these Mission Week events, including our annual Mass of the Holy Spirit, on Aug. 21 in Phoenix and Aug. 28 in Omaha. A full schedule is currently online on our Mission Week website.
Thank you for your commitment to our students, each other, and the Creighton mission.
Sincerely,
Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, PhD
Creighton President
