The Kripke Center for the Study of Religion & Society and Department of History is leading a new reading group open to all Creighton faculty and staff on Wednesdays, Sept. 18 and Oct. 23.
Betsy Elliot-Meisel, PhD, associate professor in the Department of History, will facilitate a reading group on Timothy Egan’s best-selling book, A Fever in the Heartland. This book tells the story of the Ku Klux Klan’s rise and fall from power in the 1920s, particularly in the Midwest. Central to this story are religious and racial divides in American society separating Protestant, Catholic and Jewish people. Is anything in his story relevant to American society today?

After the reading group finishes, Egan will be coming to Creighton to discuss his book as part of the Department of History’s Annual Horning Lecture on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Harper Center. Stay turned to Creighton Today for more information.
The Kripke Center will provide free copies of the book to reading group participants. The reading group will meet Sept. 18 and Oct. 23 from 3:30–4.45 p.m. CT in Dowling Hall Humanities Center, Room 214. Refreshments will be provided.
