Abbis Haider Jaffri, DPT, assistant professor in the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, recently received a $10,000 research grant award from the American College of Sports Medicine to investigate the effects of foot rehabilitation and minimalistic shoes on pain, strength and function in adults with plantar fascioopathy (PF).

PF causes foot pain and reduced function, affects millions annually, with significant healthcare costs. While various treatments exist, strengthening intrinsic foot muscles shows promise for pain relief and improved function, with minimalist footwear potentially aiding in muscle strengthening and pain reduction. The goal of this project is to investigate if wearing minimalistic footwear can reduce pain in individuals with PF.
