Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

As we prepare to pass from spring to summer, our Omaha campus is also readying for its own transition as the University supports key campus improvements. These efforts, many of which are already underway, will transform the experiential opportunities Creighton provides to our students, faculty, staff, and guests.

First, I want to offer a reminder that construction will soon conclude on two significant, donor-funded projects as we plan to open Graves Hall and the CL and Rachel Werner Center for Health Sciences Education ahead of the 2023-2024 academic year. Meanwhile, the Jérôme Nadal, SJ, Jesuit Residence should be completed by early 2024.

I am also excited to share the news of renovations that will occur throughout the summer as we look to update several areas in need of maintenance and upgrades.

Shortly after commencement, we began work on three projects that should be completed this August or by early in the fall semester. These include refurbishing portions of the Skutt Student Center dining area and socialization space to increase the variety of entertainment and food options; refreshing the Reinert Alumni Memorial Library, which includes the vacation of the current Health Sciences Library space ahead of its relocation to the lower level of Reinert; and an exciting effort elevating the physical presence of the fountain sculpture, steps, and plaza outside of St. John’s Church.

Finally, Kiewit Hall and Becker Hall have begun, or will soon begin, the process of being taken offline as we plan for future construction at those campus locations.

Given the location of these renovation and decommissioning projects, there will be varying levels of impact on access to parking locations and pedestrian walkways. Throughout the summer you will be updated about each of these new projects and how certain areas may be affected. I encourage you to read Creighton Today and check your emails throughout the summer months.

While these short-term changes will no doubt create temporary and minor disruptions, they are in line with the impacts of other essential enhancements that have been happening in recent years. I invite you to join us as we step into that exciting progress and elevate Creighton as an innovative campus at the threshold of the next chapter in its 145-year history. And, regardless of how often you plan to be on the Omaha campus this summer, I hope you will take time to see these projects for yourself.

I have emphasized in the past that there is nothing that our University cannot do without the shared passion, commitment to mission, and care for others that serve as the heart of Creighton community’s strength. As we look to build on that foundation, both literally and figuratively, it will be because of you that we remain poised and positioned for continued greatness.

Sincerely,

Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, PhD
President, Creighton University
