Timothy Cook, PhD, professor of educational leadership, Jan Powers, PhD, program director and assistant professor in school counseling, and Jiwon Kim, PhD, assistant professor in school counseling, teamed up to conduct research about the mission-centered preparation and ongoing formation principals and school counselors believe school counselors should experience to contribute to the unique mission of Catholic schools.

With survey returns of 90%, these Education Department colleagues made data-based recommendations that include creating networks for Catholic school counselors and designing mission-centered graduate course modules and separate courses as well as ongoing professional development and formation for aspiring and current school counselors in Catholic schools.

This research was published in the Journal of Catholic Education. Faculty also presented recommendations to principals and school counselors in the Archdiocese of Omaha and at the annual convention of the National Catholic Educational Association in Pittsburgh.
