To comply with Federal 911 regulations, the Division of Information Technology has initiated a project to verify the physical phone locations of our faculty and staff. Verifying phone locations will increase physical safety by allowing 911 services to deliver aid more quickly on campus.

To better facilitate compliance, the Creighton phone system will be migrated to a new platform, WebEx Calling. The new phone system expands the ways you make and receive phone calls. Creighton’s new phone system will enable you to make and receive calls over the internet using your computer, smartphone or desk handset, all while retaining your existing Creighton phone number. This shift not only enhances mobility and flexibility but also aligns with our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.

Key Benefits Include:

  • Unify Communications: Streamline how we connect by integrating voice calls, video calls and messaging on a single platform. This integration enhances collaboration across campus.
  • Increased Mobility and Flexibility: Make and receive calls using your Creighton phone number from anywhere, whether you're at home, in the office or on the move.
  • Integration with Tools You Use: The new phone system works effortlessly with Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, OneDrive and other tools you use daily.
  • Simplification of Long-Distance Calling: With the introduction of Webex Calling, the University will be removing the need for a long-distance codes to make long distance calls.
  • Phased Migration: We will migrate to the new phone system in stages. Each department will receive a specific timeline for their migration, invitations to in-person tutorials, demos and Q&A sessions, along with detailed instructions to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption. The team will need assistance gathering phone information for each user and building to assist in the transition. So, we thank everyone in advance for their assistance.
  • Supporting Sustainability: By moving away from physical phones, we significantly reduce electronic waste and contribute to a greener campus environment. If you still require a physical handset, that can be accommodated.
  • Additional information: Demonstrations, training options and other opportunities to learn more will be communicated as the project proceeds.
