Creighton University is set to host the annual Dr. Jeffrey M. Smith Memorial Lecture, organized by Health Sciences - Multicultural and Community Affairs and the Center for Promoting Health and Health Equity. This year's lecture will take place on Thursday, June 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Hixson-Lied Science Building (lecture hall G04).
The event will feature Faith Fletcher, PhD, associate professor at the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine. Fletcher is renowned for her groundbreaking work in medical ethics and public health, particularly her efforts to address and mitigate anti-Black racism. Her lecture, "Anti-Black Racism: Ethics, Health Disparities and Public Health," promises to provide deep insights into these critical issues.
Fletcher's scholarship critically examines the intersections of ethics, health disparities and public health. Her work has made significant contributions to the understanding and addressing of systemic racism within the healthcare system. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with Fletcher during the event, which includes a reception with refreshments following the lecture, facilitating networking and further discussion.
The Center for Promoting Health and Health Equity invites all members of the campus community and the public to attend this enlightening event. Those interested in participating are encouraged to register in advance.
Join for an afternoon of thought-provoking discussion and community engagement in honoring the legacy of Dr. Jeffery M. Smith through this important lecture.
