This week, the Education and Training Team for the Division of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (DEDI) collaborated with Makenzie Long, PhD, assistant professor of chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences, to help lead a training on bias and inclusive environments for middle school students in the Nanoscience Summer Camp from Girls Inc.
Girls Inc. is a nonprofit in Omaha that helps prepare girls for the world by providing opportunities and experiences that amplify their voices, build leadership skills, encourage risk-taking and celebrate all-around fierceness.
The DEDI team trained the lab teacher assistants on “Identity, Bias, and Inclusive Environments” and then hosted the participants to discuss the power of mentorship while facilitating mentoring connection activities.
