The Rev. S. Ignacimuthu, SJ, PhD, the Anna and Donald Waite Chair and world-renowned Jesuit scientist, academician and author gave his lecture, “The Works of Jesuits in India,” on Wednesday, April 17, exploring the deep and impactful work and ministry of the Jesuits in India, from the time of St. Francis Xavier until now. Today, of the thousands of Jesuits in the world, nearly a fourth of them are members of the Society of Jesus in India.

Fr. Ignacimuthu also introduced his newly published book, The Works of Jesuits in India. Attendees of the lecture received a copy of the book. The book's preface is written by Creighton President the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, PhD.

In his lecture and book, Fr. Ignacimuthu invites individuals on a journey through history, one of tumult, loss, reclamation and progress.

About the wholesome formation of students, Fr. Ignacimuthu writes, "Jesuit education is world affirming. It promotes dialogue between faith and culture. It teaches how God is at work in each creature for the good of each one. In short, the Jesuit education forms students as men and women for others with creativity, competence, commitment, compassion, and consciousness. It aims at the integral transformation of the whole person—mind, heart, spirit, and body. It promotes personal well-being and the common good."
