The Nebraska Summit on Justice and Disparities, presented by the Lincoln Branch and Omaha Branch NAACP, will take place at Creighton University this Friday, Aug. 9. Modeled after a successful annual summit in Iowa, the program brings attention to – and calls for action to address – the over-representation of people of color within Nebraska’s criminal justice system.
Keynote speaker Dr. Yusef Salaam, one of the “Exonerated Five” (once known as the “Central Park Five”) will bring a powerful personal perspective on criminal justice reform. Other speakers range from local officials, including Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer, to grassroots activists, all working toward a more just future.
Creighton University is a co-sponsor through the combined efforts of the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Kingfisher Institute for the Liberal Arts and Professions. Registration is still available.
