Creighton Engage is a new online platform to centralize service and volunteer efforts across the University, directly connected to the mission of being students, staff, faculty and alumni for and with others.
Creighton students, faculty, staff and alumni can register for service events, log their service-learning course hours, or self-report their volunteering through the platform, which is synchronized with Creighton’s Net ID system. The data captured will track hours of service and organizations around the world where service was completed. The data will be aggregated to create reports and service summaries that can be used for various purposes. For example, a student could use the information collected on graduate or professional school applications.
The system also enhances the University’s ability to share the impacts on students and community partners with various stakeholder groups, including donors, accrediting bodies, prospective students and alumni.
The effort is led by Lizzy Curran, director of the Office of Global and Community-Engaged Learning, in partnership with Becca Huju, program manager for local community engagement with the Schlegel Center for Service and Justice.
“We are excited to have an opportunity to be able to measure the outcomes and impact of the service done by members of the Creighton community,” Curran says, “and to be able to strengthen engagement with our community partners.”
Some beneficial features include the ability to:
• Assess student learning from experiential activities
• Build surveys into community activities
• Manage events, opportunities and internships with community partners across campus
• List project-based opportunities for faculty to integrate into their courses more easily
• Promote civic engagement opportunities
• Enhance opportunities for experiential learning
• Support eService-Learning and online engagement with community partners
• Host virtual volunteer fairs
• Create a community inventory and promote sharing resources
• Demonstrate Creighton’s volunteer impact across the United States (and the world!)
When registering for a volunteer event through the SCSJ (for example) for the first time, users simply click “register,” log in with their Net IDs and passwords, and the system will already know their email address, department and birth date.
