The Omaha Public Library recently announced a book by Theodore Wheeler, assistant professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, has been selected as its featured book for this year's annual Omaha Reads program.
The historical noir novel, The War Begins in Paris, is set in 1938 Europe and is a story about a young woman's journey from a Mennonite farm in Iowa to a foreign correspondent in Paris and a secret mission to assassinate a Nazi propagandist in wartime Germany.
Omaha Reads is an annual event that celebrates the power of literature by bringing the community together to read and explore the themes of a single book. The book is selected through a public vote and promoted through book talks, author visits and related programs. All members of the Omaha community are invited to read The War Begins in Paris over the summer, then to discuss its themes, style and content in their private book clubs and at public events during September and October.
