The evening event, Surgical Equity: A Call to Action, will begin at 5:30 p.m. MT, 7:30 p.m. CT, and will include dinner.
Research shows that significant disparities in surgical outcomes persist. Factors such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status and geographic location influence these outcomes. Understanding and addressing the root causes of disparities is critical to improving equity in surgical care.
Join national and Phoenix-based surgical leaders who are transforming surgical care to reduce disparities and enhance access to high-quality surgical care for all for an evening of dialogue. Those committed to reducing disparities need to recognize that a multifaceted approach is required, focusing on improved access, addressing implicit bias and racism, collecting and assessing requisite data, and training the next generation to understand the impact of social determinants of health on surgical outcomes. The dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. MT, followed by the dialogue at 6 p.m. MT, 8 p.m. CT. The event will also be livestreamed.
Speakers are:
Irving Jorge, MD, MBA, FACS, chair of Acute Care Surgery, Mayo Clinic Arizona
Tess Montminy, MD, general surgery resident, Creighton University
Anathea Powell, MD, FACE, associate professor, Creighton University
Priya Rajdev, MD, general surgeon, Banner-University Medical Center
Jennifer Tseng, MD, MPH, professor of surgery emerita; immediate past Utley Professor and chair of surgery, Boston University
