Samer Al-khateeb, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Computer Science Design and Journalism (CSDJ), presented research on meetup mobs outcome prediction via deep learning at the 17th International Conference on Social Computing, Behavioral-Cultural Modeling & Prediction and Behavior Representation in Modeling and Simulation (SBP-BRiMS 2024) held on Sept. 19 at the Carnegie Mellon University.

The research is co-authored by Steven Fernandes, PhD, assistant professor at CSDJ, Jack Burright, a student at Creighton, and Nitin Agarwal of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. It is funded by the U.S. Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, and the paper can be online.

This work focused on using deep learning models to predict the success and failure of mobs (both cyber and physical mobs) by leveraging some event's critical success factors and key performance indicators found in the literature.
